Job Description
Phlebotomy Manager (Medical Lab Sciences)
Position Title: Laboratory Manager
Shift: Full Time Day Shift
Location: Seattle, WA
Job Responsibilities
As a Phlebotomy Manager you will be responsible for the oversight of day to day phlebotomy operations on the field. You will ensure specimen integrity by following proper procedures for specimen handling and processing, as well as adhering to policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, quality assurance, and safety.
Additional responsibilities of the Phlebotomy Manager include:
Manages and directs day-to-day phlebotomy operations.
Ensures efficient and effective workflow of phlebotomy and dispatch functions.
Ensures that all phlebotomy policies and procedures are followed at all times.
Ensures that the integrity of specimen from time of draw to delivery to laboratory.
Monitors and maintains systems from the time of specimen draw to delivery to laboratory; including phlebotomy system.
Ensures proper flow of specimens and accuracy of paperwork.
Works with Purchasing Manager to analyze usage of supplies for cost effectiveness and purchasing.
Maintains system to minimize lost specimens.
Communicates promptly and effectively with clients regarding questions, problems and complaints.
Serves as phlebotomy liaison with marketing, nursing and all outside staff.
Manages, supervises, disciplines, hires, educates and motivates employees.
Conducts performance evaluations on a timely basis
Meets target dates and due dates for assigned tasks.
Analyzes redraws and suggests and/or implements changes to internal and external processes to reduce frequency as required.
Ensures that the phlebotomy and dispatch area is organized and neat at all times.
Ensures that all CQI processes are followed and paperwork is completed as required.
Ensures the appropriate staffing, qualifications, and performance of staff.
Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
Interacts effectively with internal, external, and corporate staff, managers, employees, clients, professional colleagues and vendors.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Provides leadership and support for the Compliance process within management area
Distributes compliance-related materials within management area.
Ensures timely and accurate reporting and responses to compliance-related issues and monitors the implementation of corrective action plans related to such issues.
Ensures that staff participates in orientation and training programs including, but not limited to, all required compliance and HIPAA courses and relevant policies and procedures, and that such training is properly documented.
Provides open lines of communication regarding compliance issues within management area including access to the Quality Line, ensures that retaliation against staff who report suspected incidences of non-compliance does not occur.
Participates in monitoring and auditing activities and investigations, and implementing quality improvement processes, as required.
Completes performance reviews and determines compensation and promotions based on the accomplishment of established standards that promote adherence to compliance and quality standards.
Participates in required orientation, Compliance and HIPAA training programs.
Prepares compliance reports, as required.
Reports to the Director of Operations

Job Requirements
Successful candidates for the Phlebotomy Manager must have heavy management and operational experiences in a high-volume environment. Additional requirements of the Phlebotomy Manager include:
Effective management, interpersonal and leadership skills
Exceptional Customer Service skills and background
Ability to plan, organize, and effectively present ideas and concepts to groups
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
High School Diploma or equivalent
Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program or equivalent
Previous experience in phlebotomy
Previous management experience required
Good driving record-may require some travel at times to monitor the field phlebotomists
CPT licensing highly preferred
